DeepSeek V4 to Launch in Weeks: Fully Runs on Huawei Chips, a Key Milestone for China's Semiconductor Autonomy
Chinese AI startup DeepSeek's new flagship model V4 is set to launch in the coming weeks, running entirely on Huawei's self-developed chips—seen as a key milestone in China's semiconductor autonomy.
DeepSeek collaborated with Huawei and Cambricon for months to rewrite the model's underlying code for domestic chip compatibility, and did not grant Nvidia early testing access, only inviting Chinese chip firms to optimize.
Tech giants like Alibaba, ByteDance and Tencent have pre-ordered hundreds of thousands of Huawei's Ascend 950PR chips to deploy V4, pushing the chip price up by about 20%. V4 uses a MoE architecture with 1 trillion total parameters, supporting text, image and code multi-modal inputs.
