Google Image turns 25, adds AI image generation with Nano Banana model

Google Image is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The service launched in July 2001, allowing users to search images across the web. Over the years, it added features like reverse image search, Google Lens, and Circle to Search.

To mark this milestone, Google is adding image generation to its AI Overviews. Users can now use the new Nano Banana model to create custom, high-quality images from simple text prompts. This helps bring unique visual ideas to life.

The feature will roll out to English-language users in the coming weeks, in regions where AI image creation is supported.
