OpenAI and Google team up to make fake AI pictures easy to spot
Ever looked at a picture online and wondered if it's real or AI-made? With AI image tools getting super powerful, telling them apart is harder than ever. This Tuesday, OpenAI stepped up, teaming up with Google to launch two new features to help you spot fake AI images. OpenAI is using the C2PA standard, which leaves a clear 'AI-made' mark in the picture's data. It's also adding Google's SynthID invisible watermark, which sticks around even if you screenshot, resize, or edit the image. These two methods work together to make cheating tough. For now, this only works for images made by OpenAI's own tools, like DALL·E. OpenAI also showed off a verification tool, which first checks only its own images but plans to support others later. Next time you see a suspicious picture, give it a check!
