xAI's Grok barely used by US government, only 3 cases vs OpenAI's 234
xAI's Grok chatbot is struggling to win over its biggest potential customer: the US government. Federal records show only 3 out of over 400 public AI projects use Grok, compared to 234 for OpenAI and 33 for Google Gemini.
Despite offering Grok to agencies for just 42 cents each and being available for 8 months, most employees prefer other tools. At DARPA, engineers choose Google Gemini for analysis and Claude for coding, while Grok is rarely used. In the business world, Grok's user share dropped from 5% to 2%.
Experts say Grok lacks the security standards needed for government work. SpaceX had hoped Grok would help justify its $1.75 trillion IPO valuation, but analysts warn that without government support, that goal may be out of reach.
